who we are
Who we are
We are a diverse community of forgiven sinners, claimed by God, which yearns to grow an authentic life in worship to God, loving relationships to one another and humble service to one another.

Why we exist
We exist to glorify God and grow His kingdom, by cultivating our relationship to Jesus and sharing His word to others.

Our Congregation
Addis Ababa is a large city with many expatriates and many international organizations such as the African Union, European Union and over 100 embassies. At Redeemer, our congregation is made up of people of all nationalities and from all walks of life.

We welcome our Christian brothers and sisters of all faiths into our English speaking congregation to visit with us, partake of the Holy Communion and to become full members of our church family.

Redeemer members are active within Ethiopian society and within our church. It is through the member volunteers that our congregation is able to run its services and activities. We welcome all members to join in the many serving opportunities that our church has available.

Our LEADERSHIP
Redeemer is blessed to have two bodies of leadership.

The Redeemer Church Council is made up of 5-7 members from different backgrounds, cultures and Christian traditions, and manage the administrative and strategic aspects of the church body. Members of the Church Council represent the congregation at the Addis Ababa Synod of the EECMY.

The Redeemer Pastoral Team guides the spiritual life of the congregation and is led by the pastor. The Pastoral Team invites other ordained members, who might serve in another ministry capacity in Ethiopia, who are interested to serve in our congregation. Together the Pastoral Team is better able to provide for the spiritual needs of our very diverse community.

our history
Redeemer International Congregation (formerly International Luther Church or ILC) was founded in May 1958 as the only English speaking congregation of the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus (EECMY) to minister to the many missionaries within the country.

The congregation membership is very transient as members came and go, based on the duration of their time in Ethiopia.
